Head Gear for the Detroit Institute of Arts
Posted October 29, 2008
Head Gear Animation has just completed two follow-up spots to their 2007 campaign for the rebrand of the Detroit Institute of Arts. The two new spots are Son of Hatman and Thinker. “The look is comprised of simple black and white drawings, cel-animated and composited in After Effects and was developed to appeal to a very broad audience…so, sophisticated but not elitist, artful yet droll. Basically, come to the museum to get inspired people!” Says Head Gear director Julian Grey. Watch the 2007 and 2008 spots on the Head Gear site here. Full credits for this year’s campaign are here.
Save the Sharks
Posted October 28, 2008
I recently saw the Canadian documentary Sharkwater, and until then, I was not aware that sharks were facing extinction. I was happy to see this great creative for the SharkProject out of Y&R Frankfurt. The SharkProject is an initiative to raise awareness about the threat of shark extinction, centered on “finning” – a practice in which the shark is caught, their fins cut off and the rest of the animal thrown back to the sea. View the amazing mailer here. Scooped from advertising/design goodness.
World’s Biggest Beach Ball
Posted October 28, 2008
Part TV commercial shoot and part PR stunt, this past Sunday Carnival Cruise Lines dropped the world’s biggest beach ball on to a Dallas street. The two three story-tall balls got in the Guiness Book of Records, on the news and there is a TV campaign to follow. There are rumors of another Carnival larger-than-life stunt happening later this week. CBS video is here (you’ll have to watch a show promo first).

Wassup 08 for Obama
Posted October 26, 2008
Eight years after the “Wassup” spot for Budweiser was a viral success, the Wassup guys are back in this short film in support of Obama. This spot broke late last week and was produced pro bono by Believe Media and directed by Charles Stone (directed the original “Wassup”) with support from vfx house MassMarket, Union Editorial and Sound Lounge. Wassup 08 was added to YouTube on Friday and at the time of this posting it was already up to 1.3 million views. Watch it on YouTube. Full credits are posted are here. More info on wassup08.com.

Best Casket Commercial Ever
Posted October 21, 2008
I have to agree with Make the Logo Bigger that this is the best casket commercial ever (I also cannot recall another one). Watch it. I laughed out loud.
