CaT is six days away

CaT is six days away

On June 3rd CaT, Creativity and Technology, is taking place in NYC. CaT is headed up by Nick Parish, former killer Creativity writer, who has this to say about the day. “We’re completely excited to have certifiable masters from many different disciplines coming together to celebrate two vital areas of our business and society: Creativity and Technology. CaT will be practical, inspirational, and vital for raising your aesthetic IQ and digital horse sense along with some of the best in the game”. A full list of speakers, with video interviews, is on the CaT site and today they released the conference opener created by Mekanism. Interesting in attending what will no doubt be a great event? Tickets are still available here.

Three goodies

Three goodies

Today I’m posting two spots that I’ve been meaning to post for a while, but never got around to, and one that I saw for the first time last night. First is this super cool spot for Matthew Williamson’s summer 09 collection for H&M by Johan Renck through H&M Red. I have also been a fan of Dos Equis’ Most Interesting Man in the World campaign for some time now. Here’s the latest installment (so good) by Euro RSCG Worldwide, NY. And finally this Stella Artois L

Try on a beard with Gillette app uArt

Okay, I don’t even have facial hair (thank god) and I found this really fun. uArt is a new iPhone app from Gillette where you can upload your pic & try out different looks via shaving away from a full face of hair. Check out my pics here. The first one is their template and the second is my chic new look. The shaver is not very easy to navigate, but perhaps that is just my lack of facial shaving experience. Either way, it’s really fun and it’s free. Agency is Agency: BBDO/Proximity Malaysia / BBDO, New York. Found on Creativity.

The Bessies

The Bessies

The Bessies, Canada’s big broadcast advertising awards show, was this past Thursday night. I meant to get a post up on Friday, but I got busy with a few things & neglected to do it (shame). Here’s a rundown on the winners, what I liked and what I didn’t like. The show opened with Bos’ Mr. Tree, part of the Mac’s Froster WTF? campaign, which won a gold for campaign (nothing like opening a show with some girl-on-girl action). DDB Vancouver won Best in Show Campaign for their Must Drink More Milk campaign (the Russian Dolls is my fav) and john st. picked up Best in Show Single for their War Child viral. As a big fan of Sid Lee, I was happy to see their adidas House Party pick up a Gold and I also love this spot for XBox, which I had never seen before, via Taxi 2 and directed by Industry’s Alex Ogus. This Alka-Seltzer spot won a Gold and although it’s funny, it’s just a total total rip-off of Flight of the Concords (humm…is it okay to win an award for knocking off a TV show?). The full list of finalists and winners is here.

Ads for Vampires

Ads for Vampires

I can’t wait for season two of True Blood to start on June 14th (from what I hear, chicks dig it more than guys). To promote the second season, HBO has created these fake ads, for real brands, targeting vampires. Bloody good (sorry, couldn’t resist). Found via Creativity.

Twitter lands Chris Kahle a job at CP+B

We’ve all heard the stories of people losing their jobs over Twitter (idiots), well here’s one about someone getting a job. Congrats Chris and it’s wonderful that he donated the $200 to charity.

School wins at AICE

Congratulations to my friends over at School for picking up three honors last night at the AICE (Association of Independent Creative Editors) Awards Show in LA. It was the most awards given to an individual company (okay, they tied for that honor). Mark Morton won in the Public Service category for his “Struggle” spot for Parkinson’s Society Canada via Taxi 2, Toronto. Griff Henderson scored the Best of Toronto honor for Wiser’s “New Shirt” via John St., Toronto. Aaron Dark won the Under $50,000 category for Toronto International Film Festival/Cadillac’s “Scream,” Via McLaren McCann, Toronto. View all three winning spots here.
