It's Not Science Fiction

Medevac is the latest the spot in the US Air Force’s “It’s Not Science Fiction” campaign via GSD&M, directed by MJZ‘z Phil Joanou, with visual effects by MassMarket and edited by Paul Martinez at Arcade Edit.  The spot, set in a post disaster metropolis of the future, follows Airmen on their mission to rescue a group of local citizens from certain destruction at the precipice of a collapsing bridge. MassMarket created the post disaster environment from plates of downtown LA including the full CG destruction of the 6th street bridge downtown. To take the viewer from the world of science fiction to the present day they worked with Phil and the agency to design a futuristic fleet of rescue aircraft. The aircraft then transforms into the modern day C17 in the dramatic climax to this hero’s tale. Full credits.

Listen to Your Monobrow

Director Brian Lee Hughes has a way with all things creepy, and I mean that with the utmost respect, and this new spot, The Monobrow, for the music subscription service Simfy (available in Germany, Austria and Switzerland) is no exception. Creepy good BLH, creepy good. I also love the use of Kajagoogoo’s “Too Shy”. The Monobrow is produced by Stink in Germany via via Jung von Matt/Fleet. Full credits.

After Hours Athlete

Jajajajajaja – I adore the work of director Ringan Ledwidge and I love After Hours Athlete for Puma, via Droga5 & his US pro co Smuggler, that picked up the Grand Prix in the Film Craft Category in Cannes. Speaking of love & Ringan Ledwidge, it’s a good day to re-watch Getting Dressed – one of the spots that made me want to do what I do for a living.

Toronto Urban Film Festival

The July 15th deadline for submissions for TUFF is quickly approaching.

Unique in North America, TUFF is a public film festival that reaches 1.3 million daily commuters on the ONESTOP TTC subway platform screens. This year’s guest judge is Atom Egoyan. Dubbed “the film festival for commuters”, TUFF showcases all genres of film, video, and animation from both professional and emerging filmmakers as long as it’s of interest to an urban population.

Urban-themed films from across Canada and around the world play every 10 minutes on 300 screens in 60 subways stations across Toronto..

TUFF is open to both Canadian and international submissions. All films screened are silent and exactly one-minute in length.
