Tie the Knot

Posted September 21, 2011

I’d consider getting married (again) for an invitation this cool. Yikes. That’s two wedding-themed posts in a row.

George Clooney Gets Married

Posted September 21, 2011

Nah, he never will. But here’s an entertaining spot for a Norwegian Bank directed by Martin Werner via pro co Bacon (love their wordmark with its little pig tail). Martin Werner is repped by Partners Film in Canada. Side note, ever notice that Clooney can’t act? He just plays himself over and over and over again?

Boardwalk Empire’s Vintage Ride

Posted September 16, 2011

The folks at HBO sure have a lot of dough. For the launch of season two of Boardwalk Empire (Sept 25th – can’t wait!) they have bought a vintage subway car (1917), covered it with Boardwalk Empire ads and have it running on the 2/3 track. Very cool.

Speeders Beware – You Are on a Digital Billboard

Posted September 16, 2011

The latest from Wasserman + Partners, Vancouver, in conjunction with The Media Merchants, is this road safety digital billboard for Preventable. Set up in school zones, the mobile digital billboard photographs speeding cars and posts their photos on the billboard with the message “Before you rush through here, have a word with yourself.” The first such road safety digital billboard of its kind in North America, the objective is to engage drivers to consider how they drive, particularly around school zones.

In 2010, Preventable achieved international attention with its back to school preventable injury initiative of a 3D illusion pavement image of a small girl chasing a ball, the first in Canada.

Short Cuts at TIFF

Posted September 13, 2011

Last night I attended Short Cuts at TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival). The showcase of eight films consisted of short documentary, animated or narrative films from emerging and established filmmakers across Canada. My two favourites were Mandeep and A River in the Woods.

Mandeep is Darrin Klimek’s directorial debut. The six minute poignant documentary film is about 23-year-old Mandeep Sanghera, who suffers from severe Tourette’s Syndrome. The film gives an intimate look into a day in the life of a very charming man with an often misunderstood condition.

Klimek’s background is in still photography, and he acted as writer, director, DOP and sound guy on the film.

A River in the Woods is at the complete opposite end of the film spectrum from Mandeep. Written and directed by Christian Sparkes, A River in the Woods is a 12 minute fictional story about a group of kids who befriend a monster they find in the woods. Very beautiful and with an unsettling feeling of impending doom.

If you get a chance to see either film, I highly recommend you do.
