Art & Copy
ART & COPY, Directed by Doug Pray (SURFWISE, HYPE!, SCRATCH), reveals the stories of eleven people you've never met who've affected your life - providing a window into the creative process of some of the most influential advertising visionaries of our time and their iconic campaigns, including Lee Clow (Apple Computer 1984, and today’s iPod); Dan Wieden (“Just Do It”); Phyllis K. Robinson (who invented the “me generation” with Clairol); Hal Riney (who helped President Reagan get re-elected); and George Lois (who saved MTV and launched Tommy Hilfiger overnight). It made it's World Premier at Sundance this year and is screening at Hot Docs in May. Can't wait to watch it. Thanks Doug. Posted by Josefina.

Glossy Going Away
Tomorrow I leave to take my first time off, other than Christmas, since I launched glossy in April 2006 (gasp - I know). I'm off to southern Sri Lanka with Trip Canada and Developing World Connections to build houses for tsunami victims. Words can not express how excited I am about the experience that awaits me. I will not be updating glossy while I'm away, but three guest bloggers are very kindly stepping in (the first guest post is below). Upon my return, I'll be sure to post pictures from my trip, and perhaps video too as Mr. Glossy got me a fancy new Kodak Zi6. Photo courtesy of Amalie Bruun, who went on this excursion last year and who recruited me to go with her this year. xo

Simpsons spoofs adidas Houseparty
Hello and welcome to the First Fuzzy Post on Glossy. Knowing how much Glossy loved Nima Nourizadeh's adidas Houseparty we thought we'd share this new Simpsons spoof for Sky television that just makes us wanna get up on the dancefloor, shake our milk and bring all the boys to the yard. We could teach you, but we'd have to charge. Posted by Fuzzy.

Psyop Colorizes Ran-Ban
In addition to the spot below, Psyop has added a splash of of colour to Cutwater's Never Hide campaign for Ray-Ban (there's no hiding with these shades - pun intended). The three vibrant spots are Cannon, Drill and Paint Can. Psyop creative directors are Todd Mueller and Kylie Matulick. Full credits are here.

Super Chameleon
Super Chameleon is the latest in the Never Hide film series for Ray-Ban. As a child I spent most of my time catching frogs and salamanders (I always returned them to where I found them unharmed), so I love that the hero in this spot is a chameleon. And although it’s still unseasonably cold in Toronto, the vibrant colours in this spot remind me that spring is on its way (one would hope). Agency is Cutwater, San Francisco. Music is “Eat My Bear” by YUKSEK. Not sure who directed.

World Water Week Canada
The Tap Project is an amazing fundraising initiative for UNICEF and I give kudos to Droga5 for coming up with the idea. But every year (this year & last) I'm extremely disappointed about how it's executed in Canada. Last year (I believe) only the Cara Foods group of restaurants were involved and this year it's the Keg and this pathetically short list of other restaurants across Canada (only one restaurant besides the Kegs in Toronto - seriously?). The Tap Project was headed up in Canada by Taxi last year and by Due North this year (both pro bono). I really wish that such an important cause could be better promoted and embraced in Canada. It saddens me that it is not. See a story in today's Marketing on the campaign. You can donate here (I did).

Phish in space and Phish in the sky
The latest from Blip Boutique is these two videos to promote Phish's upcoming summer tour. "The videos needed to be huge spectacles that would speak to the extremely active online fan base and create a viral sensation", says Blip CD James Frost. Blip Boutique decided to create both videos based on live events on a monumental scale that would garner attention and stir debate about the question "is it really real?" The first, released in January, captured a team of five sky writing airplanes over Southern California. The second, released March 17th, reversed the spectacle. The announcement was painted on the ground, on a property in Georgetown, Texas and captured from the sky by way of aerial photography. More info on the spots and how they were made is posted here. Some fan discussion is posted here.

LED Sheep
This is my third Samsung post this month and for the record, no, I am not on their payroll. I received this new viral yesterday and watched it a couple of times today trying to decide if I liked it or not. I think it's a cool idea but is it mean to treat the sheep this way (this coming from a girl who ate lamb for dinner last night)? I also was trying to tell if it was all shot in camera or if there are some vfx used. Claudio, who sent it to me, told me that Jon Stopp, the head of production, says that it was all done in camera. I'm still a bit skeptical, but I like that it made me think about it.

Which spot makes you feel the bubbles?
Interesting how a different cut and music can completely change the feel of a spot. Today I stumbled across the director's cut of the new Aero spot out of JWT London featuring skating boarding star Bob Burnquist. I haven't had an Aero in a while, but this spot made me think that they taste better than I remember. Now here is the air version. I love Jackson 5 but somehow the experience isn't as great as in the director's cut. Do you agree?

Amazing Street Art
I know there is a bit of controversy amongst street artists and some of them selling their talents to advertisers, but I love when advertising and art mix like the wild postings by Fauxreel for Vespa or Joshua Allen Harris' Polar Bears used by Environmental Defense Fund (the spot is directed by Tim Godsall). A friend sent me this link yesterday to Julian Beevers 3D chalk art and I'd love to see his talents utilized by a brand. Of course only the right brand.

I'm in love with this Puma spot
I love this new Puma spot out of Droga5 so much that I watched it five times back-to-back. Okay, I know five is a bit excessive, but it deserves more than one view to take in all its glory. I love that it feels like an art film and not a Puma spot, I love the projections, the music and the stylishly sexy dance (do you get that I love it?). "Lift" is directed by MJZ's Rupert Sanders with visual effects by MassMarket.

An agency made out of cardboard
A new Amsterdam-based ad agency, called Nothing, has opened its doors housed in an office built entirely out of cardboard (I take it smoking will be prohibited in the space & spilling coffee a definite no-no). Nothing is headed up by former DDB ECDs and Selmore co-founders Michael Jansen and Bas Korsten and was designed by Alrik Koudenburg and Joost van Bleiswijk. A full story on the agency and their space is on Creative Review's blog (be sure to read Joost van Bleiswijk's response to all the fire hazard and coffee spill comments).

Thanks for the tip NS.

Barack Obama's Campaign Manager Speaks At Cannes Lions
The Cannes Lions full 2009 seminar schedule is supposed to go live today on their site (at the time of this post it was not yet available). David Plouffe, referred to by Obama as "the unsung hero" of his campaign, will join the DDB seminar on the "Audacity Of Successful Brands" on Thursday 25 June at 10:45 am. Full details are here. I hear that due to the poor economy many people will not be attending Cannes this year and a lot of the signature parties have been cancelled. I'll be there & I'll definitely be checking out this seminar.

My friends over at Blacklist made two of the spots, Love & Sockets, directed by David Lobser, and Firesprite, directed by Pistachios. Super-cute character design. Full credits are here.

Who doesn't love hamsters and who didn't have more than one when they were growing up (poor little guys getting mauled by kids). Here's a new spot, out of David & Goliath, for the Kia Soul featuring lots of those cute little rodents. It kind of starts of feeling like Sheet Metal with hamsters, no? Would have been a hilarious, but chaotic, if they put the hamsters in those clear plastic balls. Found on AdLand's Twitter.

Canon Human Statues Street Stunt
I found this via Bestadsontv.com (a site I love), but I have to say I'm not a fan of this outdoor campaign for Canon's new Powershot IS2000, from DDB South Africa. There is way too much reading on this promotional video, the majority of the human statues are pretty boring, there seems to be more Canon street staff than general public and the general public doesn't seem to be all that engaged. Remember the Melting Moms campaign for Truth? Those people are truly engaged, interacting & I barely had to read anything. The one thing I thought was cool about the Canon is the boxers at 47 seconds in. If the goal was to promote the image stabilizer of the camera, more action oriented performers would have been great and more engaging.

I hope RIM didn't pay for this ad
Although I have to admit that I've been thinking of trading in my iPhone for a BlackBerry (my email doesn't always send on my iPhone & I'm allergic to the nickel in the iPhone's faceplate - serious), this spot for the BlackBerry Bullet is just lame. I'm hoping that it is a spec spot - anyone know? I see on adsoftheworld that it was made by Guava, New York (no agency is mentioned). If you are going to make fun of a brand like Apple, you got to do a good job at it.
