Great new site for Tostitos via Element 79, Chicago and Mekanism, San Francisco (directed by Tommy Means). So funny. I've actually been on three times now and that's amazing with my limited attention span. The first time I was on, I saw a funny moon boot bit...refresh the intro until you see it.

Here is the first of ten webisodes for Hot Snack Radio, an original comedy series for Showcase.ca. The series, created and directed by Matthew Eastman and produced by Toronto production company Sons & Daughters, is set in a wacky enclave of would-be Internet entrepreneurs who struggle with challenges of operating a bush league Internet radio station. There's was a great article on the Bud Light "Dude" campaign in yesterday's New York Times. It tells the story of how the entire campaign originated from a short film created by Clay Weiner (repped by Biscuit) and Kenny Herzog. Read the full story here. See the most recent Dude Vegas (dir cut) here and the previous two Dude spots here and here.

| Goodby wins at New York Festivals |
| |
Last week Goodby, Silverstein & Partners picked up the top prize at New York Festivals for GetTheGlass.com for Milk. The site features the fantastical story of the Adachis, a family suffering from ailments related to their lack of Milk. On the site, viewers play a board game where they help the Adachi family get a glass of highly-secured Milk. If you make it all they way to the end, Milk sends you an actual “get the glass” glass. Full credits are here. See all the New York Festivals winners here.

Here's the latest from Ogilvy Toronto and Tim Piper -- that guy who won a few awards for that Dove Evolution spot (directed by Piper and Yael Staav). The creepy Bee Boy is a bit of a departure from the work I've seen from Piper before and also a new direction for the brand too. Full credits and a comment from Piper are here.

Yesterday afternoon I attended the Boards Creative Workshop in Toronto (Alex Bogusky was the keynote speaker - amazing) and I really enjoyed learning more about Jakob Trollbäck. In particular this spot for TMC. Beautiful. If you have never attended one of Boards' workshops, I highly recommend checking it out. The next one is scheduled for this summer in LA.

| |
Last year Crush Toronto created nine clips for Douglas Coupland's latest novel The Gum Thief. Michael Stipe from R.E.M. saw those spots and contacted Crush directly to discuss having them make their next music video. A month and a half later, here is that video - Hollow Man. Credits and the full story behind this project are posted here. Congratulations to Crush on a job well done (and such a good story). If you are interested, the Warner Bros. press release is here.

| Stop Motion for Nokia |
| |
I love this new (old school) spot for Nokia titled Get Out and Play by Swedish director Hobby and agency Farfar. Get-out-and-play.com has other goodies on it including an homage to Breakout (god I wish my dad never sold my Atari at a garage sale). I'm a big fan of stop motion, I think it stems back to seeing Neighbours in Peter Harcourt's Canadian Cinema class at Carlton University (in his Godard class he used to say, "So I was talking to Jean-Luc last night..."). I digress. It's Monday.

| |
This is not new, broke at the end of last year, but I only stumbled across it last week and fell in love with the concept. To celebrate their 15th anniversary Taxi decided to give something back to the community by creating the 15 Below Jacket - a jacket for the homeless. Stuffed with newspapers is can withstand a night in the cold Canadian winter, newspapers removed it's waterproof for spring and summer. Full details here. Kudos to Taxi.

Here's the print component for Lowe Roche's Laughing is Good For You campaign for Laughing Cow cheese. As a fan of Laughing Cow (I always have some in my fridge), I like how this print ad is interactive like the product is - fun to unwrap the cheese, fun to pull the tabs on the print ad. Full credits are here.

| Food is Fun |

I am a big fan of the "playing with your food" spot (see Dare, Guardian and Maple Leaf). Maybe it reminds me of childhood or that I really like food. I just found this Tip Top ice cream spot on Feed and although I don't think it's quite as good as the ones previously mentioned, I still like it (the jingle is a bit annoying, but I get that it's geared to kids so I'll forgive that). Created by Oktober.

| Caveman's Last Dance? |
| |
Okay, sure dancing cavemen are funny, but it would be so much more fun if you could interact with the site - pick the music, control the moves. It's no where near as cool as last year's stellar Caveman's Crib site. Could this be caveman's last dance? They've had a good run of it, but I think it's time.

Last night director Clay Weiner won the people's choice award at the 2008 First Boards Awards in NYC. Clay is an accomplished writer, art director, designer and director. He's repped by Biscuit Filmworks in LA and you can view his current showreel here. On a side note, Clay's done some amazing work for MTV (view Puberty here), HBO Comedy, and he's been a writer for the The Conan O’Brien Show, The Dana Carvey Show and is a frequent contributor to Dazed and Confused, Vice, Flaunt and Blackbook. Yay Clay!

Christoph was kind enough to wish glossy a happy birthday (see his comment on the highlighted post below). As I'm nosy (curious is a better word) and always like to know who is checking me out, I went to his company's site, The Miller Group, and there I found this funny outdoor ad for Rocky Road. So thanks Christoph for the kind note and for this ad that made me laugh at the end of a long day.

I came across this 1940's short by Norman McLaren on Mellart and had to post it. What a fantastic piece, even by today's standards and the cast of characters listing off the top is a really nice touch. Now's also a good time to watch McLaren's Academy Award winning Neighbours. But watch it quick, as every time somebody posts it on YouTube the NFB is quick to have it removed (meanies).

Here's an April Fools from Psyop -- they have changed the opening animation on their home page (in case you've never been). The only big April Fools joke I ever did was helping to take the hinges off my grade 10 math teacher's door & put it back on upside down.
