| A Little Piece of Happy |
| |
As part of their "a Little Piece of Happy" campaign, Trident, via The Hive, Toronto, took over Toronto's Dundas Square on Thursday by placing 3200 pinwheels in real grass. The set up took a little over three hours and people were encouraged to walk away with a pinwheel & some gum (a little piece of happy). Similar executions also took place in Calgary and Vancouver. Thanks to Michelle for the scoop.

| Be in the know in NYC |
| |
It's been a while since I posted any funny TV commercials on glossy - I just don't think anything has made me laugh in a while (crime). So I'm going to ease back into comedy with these three dry humor spots for NBCNewYork.com via Mother, New York and directed by Biscuit's Aaron Ruell. Ted is my fav - makes me want to eat shrimp cocktail. Also check out Liz and Ron. Full credits are here.

| StripTea |
| |
I love tea. I drink two to three cups of tea every morning and usually one or two in the afternoon. I think this StripTea, from Donkey Products, is hilarious. There's also RoyalTea and DemocraTea. What about CelebraTea? or DeadCelebraTea? That would be great. Scooped from Firat at Elma+Alt+Shift.

| Sand Animation |

Have you seen Kseniya Simonova creating sand "animation" on Ukraine's Got Talent? Truly amazing. I wonder how long before this technique is used in a TV commercial - or has it been? Anyone know? Thanks to my Ukrainian Dad for the tip. xo

| 8-Bit Trip |
| |
Those of you who read glossy regularly know that I am a fan of Lego. So I love this spot which is made up of 1500 hours of moving Lego bricks and is stop-motion tribute to 8-bit video games. Animated by Tomas Redigh to a track by Daniel Larsson also known as the Swedish creative duo Rymdreglage. Found via Cpluv.

| |
I saw District 9 on Monday night & I LOVED LOVED LOVED it. Loved it. Do you get that I loved it? I can't wait for District 10 to come out (not sure if this is in the works but my fingers & toes are crossed that it is). Congrats to director/writer Neill Blomkamp on a job well done. Kudos also go out to my friends at Embassy in Vancouver who did some of the VFX.

| Poor little Salty |
| |
There's some really cute character design in this new spot for Knorr Sidekicks - Salty is sidekicked to the curb, so to speak. I actually feel sorry for the little guy. DDB Canada Toronto created the spot, it's directed by Sons and Daughters David Hicks and features visual effects by AXYZ. Full credits and a selection of stills are here.

| Great biz card |
| |
I was visiting my friends at Extreme Group yesterday - for those of you who don't know them (shame) they are originally a Halifax-based (Nova Scotia) agency that opened up a Toronto shop about a year ago and recently moved into some really nice digs in Liberty Village. I digress. While I was there, loving their office Yorkie, I caught a glimpse of this business card they recently created for a Toronto painting company. Love it. View the card and full credits here.

| Heineken Music |

Here's a new spot for Heineken via McCann Erickson, Dublin created by Psyop. It's a bit of a different look for a Heineken ad, but I like that it incorporates the hand that they've been using in past campaigns. Full credits are here. On a side note, I rarely drink beer but yesterday at lunch, on a patio in 30 degree celcius heat, I had a very cold Heineken. It was yummy (thanks for buying Anthony).

| 80's Ice Cream |
| |
Not a great shot, shame about the reflection, but I love this 80's ice cream ad with its 80's workout craze theme. Nothing says exercise more than, um, ice cream. I snapped this pic this past weekend at the Vegreville, Alberta fair. Right after getting nauseous on the tilt-a-whirl and right before eating a candy apple (yum) and riding the faris wheel with my 5-year-old nephew Blake. Good times.
