Q&A with Pistachios on Matching Match
Q: How did you come up with the idea for the game?
A: I have been wanting to make games based on facial expressions. We're all born experts at reading them, why aren't more games based on that?
Q: Why a matching game?
A: That just seemed like a good way of getting face-reading in there. I'm new at this, so I'm going for the low-hanging fruit!
Q: Is this your first app? Game? Tell me about your experience creating it.
A: Yes, it's my first one. I don't know the first thing about code, so it was all made possible by using a fabulous program called Gamesalad. It's still in Beta, so it's buggy and unpredictable as hell, but it lets us non-coding types get apps on the app store, and that's a wonderful thing.
Q: Tell me about the Skippy character design – what inspired you?
A: He started out as this trans-gender millipede sea captain character. The millipede body is what turned into the long neck. I really like Skippy, I can see him developing further in future games.
Q: Tell me about the tools you used to create it.
A: The previously mentioned Gamesalad, Adobe Photoshop and After Effects.
Q: 3D – that’s pretty cool. Can you tell me a bit about that?
A: I just really love the effect. I've been experimenting quite a bit with stereoscopic photography. Stereo pictures were the standard in the beginning of photography, before they started printing photos in newspapers. There are loads of fascinating stereo pictures from the 19th century. For this game, it's really unnecessary to have a 3D-mode, but it makes me happy, so hopefully others too! And there seems to be a real shortage of 3D view apps on the app store.
Q: What’s your high-score?
A: 7995. I was in the mode. If you beat it, let me know
Q: Any plans for another game?
A: I'm working on a new game now, where you play a wild Mustang running over the Pampas.
