There’s a new Facebok app that takes the guess-work out of online dating.

Developed by four Toronto friends in their 30s who work in the Toronto advertising scene, YouShouldTotallyMeet is a new Facebook app that relies on your online network of friends to set you up and find your match.

This simple-to-use app allows users to pair up single friends (who have common interests) over Facebook – a medium where social barriers are easily overcome. This helps friends who run in different social circles meet without awkwardness or pretense. In essence, the app’s user becomes an online matchmaker.
“Two of us are married, and the other two are single,” says Hayley Taylor, Co-Founder, YouShouldTotallyMeet. “We saw an opportunity to use Facebook as a way for single people to have fewer bad dating experiences. By being set-up with mutual friends of friends, it’s a way to ‘kiss fewer frogs’, so to speak.”

The foursome was inspired by their own personal dating stories. They found that connecting with people in today’s busy world was much harder than it should be. The most common way people meet now is through set-ups and online dating; yet there are stigmas around these methods. YouShouldTotallyMeet attempts to address two of the biggest barriers, which are: 1. The awkwardness of blind dating and 2. Meeting people who they have nothing in common with.

The app works on the idea that our trusted friends know us best – our likes, dislikes, motivations, hobbies, and such. They’re the ones who will help us find success in the dating world, rather than some dating algorithm.

The whole process starts when you build a profile for someone you want to set up. By doing this you automatically become their wingman (or wingwoman). This is someone who knows what qualities your friend is looking for and can match them up. Then you write some reasons why someone should totally meet this awesome person and get mutual friends to vouch for how fantastic they are.

This is part of the “pre-screening process”. YouShouldTotallyMeet allows the person who is being set up to see what their friend, and friends of friends, have said about their potential match. The thinking here is that a friend’s opinion is more valuable than what someone writes in their own dating profile – which is usually exaggerated anyway. It provides a real and honest sense of who this person is you’re about to chat with, or potentially meet for a date.

After you finish creating your friend’s profile, you go through your friend list and start finding people they should totally meet. An introduction is made by a single click.

YouShouldTotallyMeet quickly taps into our network of friends, and their friends, and their friends of friends to get people closer to their perfect match.

The next stage for YouShouldTotallyMeet is making the app mobile compatible, a development which is already in the works.

YouShouldTotallyMeet was created by Genevieve Beharry, Anne Ngo, Hayley Taylor and Paul Fung.
