Koodo Doubles Down on its Customer-Friendly Message

With the new national campaigns “Shock-Free Data” and “Network” the wireless carrier shows why Canadians continue to “Choose Happy.”

In a category notorious for customer dissatisfaction, wireless carrier Koodo has some of the happiest customers in Canada according to tracking studies like J.D. Power’s annual Canadian Wireless Customer Care Study.

Koodo’s customer-friendly data plans and its extensive network coverage are among the main reasons Canadians continue to “Choose Happy”; both are highlighted in new national campaigns from agency partner Camp Jefferson.

The bilingual campaigns, “Shock-Free Data” and “Network” appear under the “Choose Happy” brand platform introduced in 2015, and reinforce the idea of Koodo being a fair and transparent mobile company.

The “Shock-Free Data” campaign features a blend of TV, pre-roll video, cinema, radio, digital, print and out-of-home, all underscoring the fact that Koodo customers don’t have to fear the overage charges that can make wireless customers’ monthly bill a nightmare, because Koodo has your back (a recent CRTC study found that nearly half of Canadians were charged for exceeding their wireless data last year).

The video ads, “Shower,” “Basement” and “Window,” use a series of horror movie tropes, with a Koodo bill representing the scary monster or killer. When they are abruptly presented with their monthly bill, however, Koodo customers metaphorically shrug their shoulders and simply go back to what they were doing.

“Koodo has always been a champion of the consumer, and this is just another proof point,” says Lise Doucet, VP of Marketing at Koodo.

The “Network” campaign features Canada’s big telco companies continually thwarting a Koodo spokesman’s attempts to deliver a message about its super network coverage – from spraying him with a hose to sounding an air horn as he speaks. In one cinema ad, the big telcos use shadow puppets to obscure an image of a map of Canada showing Koodo’s network coverage.

Koodo was recently named Client of the Year at The CASSIES Awards, and was ranked highest for customer satisfaction in J.D. Power’s most recent Canadian Wireless Customer Care Study.
