I did not attend the Cannes Lions this year, but one of my favourite screenings to check out is the annual Saatchi & Saatchi New Director’s Showcase.
Martin Beauvais, Partner at Toronto-based Open, was kind enough to do a round up of his favourites from this year’s showcase.

This time of year I’m usually at the Cannes Lions. I’m also usually, tired, dehydrated, my feet are hurting and I’m wearing last night’s makeup (classy). This year, because of my silly broken leg (broke it surfing – ya, I’m cool) that is still healing, I’m not there. But if I were, I would not be missing the premiere of the film that showcases Google’s Project Re: Brief.
It’s directed by Doug Pray, he did the amazing ad doc Art & Copy, and it’s on at the palais tomorrow at 7pm. If you are in Cannes, you should go.
The full scoop, along with some background info from Doug Pray, is posted on the Holiday Films blog (they rep Doug in Canada).
Side note: the project has already picked up a few awards including the inaugural Mobile Grand Prix and two Silver Cyber Lions. Nice.

One week after the Cannes Lions, DDB Toronto’s Daniel Bonder will be turning 29 – officially too old to attend the prestigious Young Lions Academy. Given that this was his last week in life to be “young”, he created “The Fuck-It List” – his submission to enter the 2012 Academy. BTW – he was accepted.
