Skin and Bones releases raw short-documentary “A DAY IN THE LIFE” to celebrate The Sewing Army volunteers

Skin & Bones’ new PSA film “A Day In The Life” for The Sewing Army celebrates the over 3,500 volunteers who came together to sew, volunteer and deliver over 85,000 masks, gowns and scrub caps to front line and essential workers during the first few months of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The raw two-minute documentary, which was shot entirely with socially-distance measures in place, captures a “day in the life” of the thousands of volunteers who operate and make up The Sewing Army.

“The film was created with an intention to capture the energy, grit, and love that emanates from the selfless volunteers who have been working from their homes night and day to create the PPE,” said Kelsey Irvine, the film’s Director. “This short film celebrates them.”

In response to the City of Toronto’s July 7, 2020 requirement that face coverings be mandatory in indoor public spaces, the short documentary also sets out to encourage a call to action for more sewists, volunteers, and donations as the need for PPE continues. The Sewing Army is currently focussing their efforts on sewing PPE for low-income and non-profit organisations and shelters in need.

“It’s such a caring group,” says Diana Coatsworth, founder of The Sewing Army. “People love that they are associated with a mission that is not only practical, but it has so much heart…this is why it is so positive, and why so many people want to be involved.”
